Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors! For those new to this, fellow writers post eight sentences from one of our works. I’m at the beach for a family reunion, so my comments may be spotty.
I’m spotlighting my upcoming release, MUST LOVE BREECHES, until its release in September. Some of you veterans from Six Sentence Sunday will remember this story, though the opening has changed a lot. Please note, that it is currently with the copyeditor, so this is an unedited version. Picking up where I left off last weekend:
“I have no bloody idea.” Jocelyn squeezed the poof of fabric at her shoulder. “These huge-ass sleeves are ridiculous.”
“Ah, screw it, we’re having fun, right? I’m not going to self-sabotage the ball, not after all the time I spent obsessing over my costume.”
“And obsessing over the etiquette rules.”
“That too.” Besides, how fun was it to learn Jocelyn shared her obsession with guys in period clothes and bodice-ripper romances?

Cute dialogue, love the contrast of the words to the costumes. The last line (not dialogue) seemed a little out of place, the sentiment was good, but I would have liked it presented more as her thoughts (ie: she mused…). Wow, sharing that obsession certainly can lead to A LOT.
Funny snippet. Put a smile on my face this morning. Loved the last line…but at first I read it I was thinking it said bodice-ripping fantasies not romances…I guess my mind wanted that word in there instead.
I remember this story, but not this scene. The dialogue is witty and realistic. Good 8!

I so love the set-up for this book. Great dialogue–cant wait until she gets back to Victorian times. Those ettiquette rules will come in handy. 🙂
And now I’m thinking about tear-away bodices versus the impregnable (pun unintended, but ha!) structural integrity of corsets . . . 🙂
But seriously, I expect the first thing young ladies of that era had to learn was spacial awareness, or they would be knocking everything and everyone over!
It wouldn’t be the sleeves that would bother me; it’s all those underthings.

I remember Isabelle from last week, but who is Jocelyn? Sounds like she’s another person from the 1800s. It would make sense that most women didn’t like the constrictive dresses, even women from that time period. I doubt the Chinese women enjoyed foot binding as it was a very painful procedure :$ It’s just what was expected at the time. Weren’t corsets popular in the 1800s? Their conversation was cute :3 Isabelle is a likable character, and I love her self-sufficiency. I think it will be a great source of conflict as she tries to survive in a society where women weren’t even allowed to vote. And I love fangirling about guys with a friend XD My weakness is pretty Japanese guys * -*
Loved the scene, quite delicious and can’t wait for more. (I think SueAnn is right about the underthings LOL). Great 8!
